Hawkinson Scholarships
Encouraging the next generation of peacemakers
The goal of the Vincent L. Hawkinson Foundation Scholarship is to encourage students who have already demonstrated a commitment to peace and justice to strive for peace and justice both in their educational pursuits and in their personal and professional lives.
Hawkinson Scholarships are awarded annually to undergraduate or graduate students who are a resident of or currently attending school in Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota or Wisconsin. A personal interview is required. Each fall, scholarship recipients are recognized at the annual Hawkinson Awards Presentation.
At the 2009 presentation, the Foundation announced the establishment of the Jacobson Scholar recognition for the top scholarship recipients each year, in honor of Stan Jacobson of St. Paul, MN. A founder and member of the board of directors, Jacobson served as the Foundation's treasurer during its first 20 years.
Since 1988, the Foundation has awarded more than $120,000 to 96 students. To learn about the 2009 Hawkinson scholarship recipients, click here.
